Born: April 25, 1999
Sire: Red Elvis
Dam: Partly Cloudy
Desert Sun, or "Sunny" as the Allens call her, is Partly Cloudy's second foal. She was born at night, and was very bright in color. At midnight, Kerra Allen named her Desert Sun because she was as red as the desert sun. She has been green broke, but has become more of a broodmare in her prime. Desert Sun can be seen at the Chincoteague Pony Centre during the summer months. She is pictured alongside other Misty family members in the book Horses in Living Color by Barbara Livingston.
Desert Sun's first three foals were sired by Cezanne. She had her first foal, a chestnut pinto filly named Cloudbursts in 2003. Desert Sun's second foal, a chestnut colt named Dust Storm, was born on February 21, 2006. Her third foal Moonshine was born on the night of July 15, 2007 and is a chestnut pinto filly. Her most recent foal was a black pinto colt born on May 24, 2009. He was sired by Tuffer than Leather and is named Smoke N Mist.
