April 25, 1999 Chestnut Mare

Great Great Great Granddaughter of Misty

Sire: Red Elvis

Dam: Misty's Partly Cloudy

Desert Sun's Pedigree

Misty's Desert Sun, or just Sunny, is Misty's Partly Cloudy's second foal. She was born at night and was very bright in color. At midnight Kerra Allen named her Desert Sun because she was as red as the desert sun. Sunny spent many summers at the Chincoteague Pony Centre. She often gave pony rides to young visitors.

In 2013 a photo of Sunny appeared on the cover of the Virginia tourism magazine. She had been specifically asked to be photographed for the cover after she had charmed a visitor that had recommended her for the magazine. Desert Sun was also pictured as a foal at a show in Chincoteague Ponies by Victor Gentle. Sunny is pictured alongside nine other Misty family members in the book Horses in Living Color by Barbara Livingston.

Desert Sun's first three foals were sired by Cezanne; chestnut pinto mare Misty's Cloudbursts in 2003, chestnut colt Misty's Dust Storm born February 21, 2006, and chestnut pinto mare Misty's Moonshine born in 2007. Her fourth and last foal was a black pinto colt named Misty's Smoke N Mist sired by Tuffer Than Leather foaled in 2009.

Sunny is semi-retired and lives in the family herd at Kerkaken Acres.
