Black Pearl of Assateague, Pearl for short, was born on Assateague in 2006. Her sire was the half Arabian Don Leonard Stud and her name was Patchy. Pearl was bought at the Pony Penning auction by Kelly Lidard for $2,900. She lived at Kelly's farm on the Eastern Shore of Virginia for the first half of her life and had two foals there.
Pearl was sold to Billy and Bonnie Beebe in 2018 and moved to Beebe Ranch on Chincoteague. Kelly had been diagnosed with cancer and found her beloved ponies new homes. Pearl had a surprise foal that August sired by Misty's Summer Rainstorm. She had been bred at Kelly's farm unknowingly and foaled the chestnut pinto gelding Legacy's Island Renegade.
Pearl still lives at Beebe Ranch meeting and entertaining visitors. She lives alongside Misty descendants Nightmist's Little Angel and Angel's Stormy Drizzle. Pearl's often pictured and mentioned in news articles about Beebe Ranch.
