A cute 1947 newspaper ad for Misty of Chincoteague. It was published in The Birmingham News on November 30, 1947.
Our friend Celina Boltinghouse took this awesome group photo at the Chincoteague Miniature Pony Farm in 1986. It's one of our favorites! Left to right are:
Stormy: http://www.mistysheaven.com/stormy.html Foggy Mist: https://www.mistysheaven.com/foggymist.html Hurricane: http://www.mistysheaven.com/hurricane.html Beebe Breeze: http://www.mistysheaven.com/beebebreeze.html Misty II: http://www.mistysheaven.com/mistyii.html Windy: http://www.mistysheaven.com/windy.html Misty's Rainbow (way in the back): https://www.mistysheaven.com/rainbow.html One of the rarest versions of Breyer's Misty model is a chalky. Chalky means it has a white basecoat underneath the model's paint. In the mid 1970s Breyer had to use whatever color plastic that was available rather than the usual white. Sometimes they were made of ground up rejected models. So they had to paint the model white before finishing the model. Some chalkies are rarer than others and Misty is one of the rarest.
This particular model belongs to our friend Lauren Hoeffer. It can also been seen on our page Breyer's Misty Family: https://www.mistysheaven.com/breyermisty.html A Chincoteague Miniature Pony Farm postcard with Windy and her first two foals. Windy was Misty's first granddaughter and Stormy's second foal. She was half Thoroughbred through an accidental breeding of Stormy to a racehorse owned by Ralph Beebe. We didn't doubt this story, but were excited to confirm it last year though DNA testing. One of her living descendants with multiple lines to her came up as 29% Thoroughbred. An unusual result for a Chincoteague Pony. We're hoping to one day figure out the identity of Windy's sire.

Sunshine was later sold to Florida and is the dam of Misty's Twilight who had her own Marguerite Henry book. http://www.mistysheaven.com/sunshine.html The third pony is Cyclone born in 1974. He was a breeding stallion and sired many foals on the old Pony Farm. At least three of his foals were unfortunately out of his dam Windy. http://www.mistysheaven.com/cyclone.html Misty in the 1940s and Misty II in the 1990s bringing the Chincoteague Pony and the story of Misty to the public.

A portion of each purchase will go to the Chincoteague Fire Company and the Museum of Chincoteague Island. Surfer's Riptide isn't a descendant of Misty, but he has sired 7 Misty descendants with Misty mares on Assateague. He has a page on our website because of his Misty foals: https://www.mistysheaven.com/surfersriptide.html Happy New Year! 2024 was our milestone 25th anniversary year! We celebrated with a complete overhaul of our website mistysheaven.com It was also expanded with new pages added and more to come! Photos from this year's activities are in this post. We started an Instagram account and on our Facebook page we're followed by 9,600 fellow Misty fans! Around 1,000 pictures (past and present) and media were added to our albums.
It was another busy year for Misty ponies and us. Amanda attended Pony Penning and followed the Chincoteague Pony Drill Team around to their many events that week. She met up with the Drill Team the following weekend to see them perform at Kentucky Horse Park. Their first performance there in many years. Misty's Red Dawn took up residence in the Kentucky Horse Park's Breed Barn and will continue her stay there into 2025. We were featured in Saddle Seeks Horse Susan Friedland's youth adaptation of her book Marguerite, Misty and Me. We were delighted to partner with Beach & Bead for a special fundraiser of Beebe Ranch shingles to benefit the Museum of Chincoteague Island. The known 2024 Misty family foals are listed below. If we've missed any we'd love to add them! They are all listed on our website under their closest relation to Misty.
