The movie Pied Piper in a Misty movie promotional print. Occasionally photos of this pony are labeled as the real Pied Piper.
Maureen and Ralph Beebe helped trainer Les Hilton train the ponies for the movie, likely including this Pied Piper. After the movie the pony made public appearances and performed tricks for the crowd at Pony Penning 1962. We haven't found anything else about him or his life. Would love to know more if anyone knows! One of only two photos of Misty's sire Pied Piper that we know of. This photo has been on display at Beebe Ranch and at the Museum of Chincoteague Island. Pictured with Pied Piper is Clarence Beebe.

An early advertising flyer for the Chincoteague Miniature Pony Farm. The farm was the home of Misty family ponies for many years. Only Cloudy and five other Misty descendants were living on the Pony Farm at the time this flyer was printed.
Read about the Pony Farm and see many pictures on our website: https://www.mistysheaven.com/ponyfarm.html Clarence "Grandpa" Beebe makes an appearance in the 1950 children's book A Pony for the Boys by Sanford Tousey. Grandpa recommends a pony for two boys and their father that had traveled to Pony Penning to buy a pony. He also lets the family camp in their car on Beebe Ranch. This illustration is supposed to be of Grandpa Beebe but doesn't don't look much like him! Still neat to see Grandpa and the ranch appear in a kid's book unconnected to the Marguerite Henry books.
A couple really nice illustrations by Trevor Newton from True Animal Stories: Hero Horses. Misty and Stormy, and Misty being led to safety from the 1962 nor'easter. The little book published in 1999 was written by Sue Welford and has a chapter about Misty's life. There's a few errors, but they're common ones that mix up Misty's real life and that of her storybook counterpart.

The traditional sized Misty as an adult has been in production for 52 years with many variations. The traditional sized Misty as a foal was released with her dam Phantom in 2022. The porcelain Performing Misty on a stool was released only in 1993. The stablemate sized mini Misty was released in 2019 for Breyer's Vintage Club. Only 500 were produced and is highly sought after.
