We’re honored to have received this plaque from our friends the 𝑪𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒐𝒕𝒆𝒂𝒈𝒖𝒆 𝑷𝒐𝒏𝒚 𝑫𝒓𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝑻𝒆𝒂𝒎 at their open house! We're still not over the 𝑪𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒐𝒕𝒆𝒂𝒈𝒖𝒆 𝑷𝒐𝒏𝒚 𝑫𝒓𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝑻𝒆𝒂𝒎 attending Breyerfest last year. Breyer often uses media from previous years so we kept an eye out for them in this year's stuff. Here's what we spotted! In our dig through Marguerite Henry's papers at the The Kerlan Collection of Children's Literature we went through the box on Misty's Twilight. One thing we were hopeful for was more information on Twilight's siblings. No pictures of them, but we did find some information! -Cloudburst was born in 1976. Sunshine was in foal with him when Dr. Price bought her. She was barely 3 years old when Cloudburst was born. He was a buckskin colt and his sire is an unknown buckskin Chincoteague. Like many too young to foal mares the pair didn't bond strongly. Cloudburst was trained to ride and became a hunter pony. He had a chapter in his little sister's book, including illustrations, but it was cut out before the final manuscript. https://www.mistysheaven.com/cloudburst.html -Misty's Dawn was born in 1984. She was a chestnut filly sired by the Thoroughbred Grandville. He was a son of Misty's Twilight's sire Big Bluffer. Dawn was trained to ride and given away to a family in 1987. https://www.mistysheaven.com/dawn.html -Misty's Sunset was born in 1985. She was a chestnut filly sired by the Thoroughbred Red Wing Bold, a son of Bold Ruler. Sunset died at 2 days old. https://www.mistysheaven.com/sunset.html -Sunshine was given away to a family in 1987 and she had a pinto filly in 1989 at her new home. Kids everywhere were invited to help name Misty's first foal in 1960. Like this ad from the Grand Rapids Press advertised. An amazing 1700 names were submitted! A panel of people including Marguerite Henry and Wesley Dennis picked the winning name Phantom Wings. A few of the names that didn't make the cut, but Marguerite made note of are below. A few were later used on other Misty ponies, knowingly and unknowingly. Mizzle Foxfire Booker Dewy Sonamisty Moonbeam Chincoteague Doubloon Nebalary Neblina Henry April Blaze Ariel Chincobee Cielito Misty’s Lad Quicksilver Sir Prancealot Snow-fire Wisp O’Mist |
