Happy New Year! 2025 was our 26th year! It was quite eventful with the 100th anniversary of Pony Penning and all the events that came with it. A selection of photos from 2025 are in this post.
Our author friend Susan Friedland of Saddle Seeks Horse brought us in on multiple things this year. Amanda was on the History from Horseback podcast in June alongside Susan. Talking Misty and all things Chincoteague Pony. A month before Pony Penning Amanda was one of the panelists talking Pony Penning with Susan on Saddle Seeks Horse’s social media. Amanda’s pictures of the drill team at Kentucky Horse Park last year were published in an article by Susan about the drill team in the July/August edition Young Rider Magazine. Breyerfest was the 2nd week in July and we were very excited that the Chincoteague Pony Drill Team had been invited to perform! We were both there and followed (stalked) the drill team taking pictures and video. Matt was member of the team in the mid to late 00’s and had either ridden or helped raise the drill team ponies. We both got misty eyed (pun intended) at seeing these ponies we’ve known all their lives performing in front of thousands of people. On Friday Susan presented a seminar “Marguerite Henry and Misty Mania” and she had kindly invited Amanda to talk about Misty memorabilia. Amanda predictably talked too long and brought too much stuff! Matt was the helper showing the memorabilia Amanda had brought. The drill team had a special meet and greet after the seminar by the Misty statue. We also got up to some shenanigans. Saturday we stole (with permission) the Breyer fly sheet worn by Misty II in 1996 and put it on the park’s Misty statue for pictures. Even though Surfer’s Riptide isn’t a Misty descendant, we took Matt’s Surfer’s Riptide’s model around the park with us for a fun set of pictures. Chasing the drill team around to their many events, performances and meet and greets. The ICPAR sets up a booth at their open house at Kerkaken Acres. The drill team performs and there’s an awesome parade of ponies. Alyssa from Discover The Horse rode Misty’s Morning Glory at the end of the open house, we look forward to her video! Two were at the Chincoteague Pony Centre who are owned by the current managers, Misty’s SnowDrop and Misty’s DewDrop. There were four in the pony pasture at the Refuge Inn. The two resident descendants at Beebe Ranch, Nightmist’s Little Angel and Angel’s Stormy Drizzle. And of course the eight Misty descendants living on Assateague. Two Misty descendants were kept as buybacks for the Assateague herd. Penny Lane and Rylee’s Way brought the number up to ten. Shadey Hills Golden Sunshine was found to be by WH Windy’s Beach Boy. She connected to her sire’s full brother Chincoeague’s Travelin’ Preacher. Misty in her stall at Beebe Ranch with some young admirers. The little girl with the darker hair shared this photo with us! Mary Lynn Randall's grandmother took this picture of Mary and her sister. Her grandparents were friends of the Beebe's. Thanks for sharing this photo with us Mary!  Misty, Stormy, and Ralph Beebe at Beebe Ranch on March 31, 1962. Stormy was 20 days old in this picture. It was a tie in to the book "Misty the Wonder Pony" along with lots of other merchandise. Considering it's an inflatable there's likely not too many surviving today! This particular inflatable is owned by Nancy Fowkes and kindly shared this picture with us. Thanks Nancy! They're standing in the front yard of the Beebe Ranch home of Grandpa and Grandma Beebe. The house was illustrated by Wesley Dennis in the Misty books. It had burned down earlier in 1996.  Misty grandson Cloudy on a postcard from The Chincoteague Miniature Pony Farm. Cloudy was the only foal of Misty's daughter Wisp O' Mist. He spent most of his life at the old pony farm alongside Misty family members and Mini's like ones on this postcard. The pinto mini is Todd and the appaloosa mini is Frisky.
