A rare photo of Misty's sire Pied Piper from the papers of Chincoteague historian Victoria Pruitt. Pied Piper is the pony walking towards the camera. Victoria's note says that he was 16 years old at the time of this photo in 1949. Pied Piper's famous daughter Misty had been born 3 years earlier.

Misty's first foal Phantom Wings was made into a Breyer model that was produced from 1983 to 1987. The real Phantom Wings had passed away many years before in 1964. But he featured prominently in The Pictorial Life Story of Misty which was first published in 1976.
As you can see from these three Breyer's Phantom Wings had some variation in color, from a normal palomino to a bright yellow! Misty's Sunpiper on Misty's Heaven: https://www.mistysheaven.com/sunpiper.html We found more information about the first two foals of Misty's Twilight in Marguerite Henry's papers at the The Kerlan Collection of Children's Literature.
Her first foal Misty's Twister was a solid bay mare sired by the Arabian Arbitraz. Twister loved people and was briefly trained by Twilight's cutting horse trainer. For a time it was thought Twister might make a cutting horse. Twister was sold to the Trowell family in 1987. https://www.mistysheaven.com/twister.html Her second foal Misty's Mirage was a solid chestnut mare sired by the Quarter Horse stallion Flashy Moon. Twilight was sent to cutting horse training after she was weaned. Mirage was very sweet and loving and was trained to ride. Mirage was sold to the Trowell family in 1987. https://www.mistysheaven.com/mirage.html The 𝑪𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒐𝒕𝒆𝒂𝒈𝒖𝒆 𝑷𝒐𝒏𝒚 𝑫𝒓𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝑻𝒆𝒂𝒎 on the back cover of Natural Horse magazine in 1999. Eric Drost offered Misty's Heaven this book from his family signed by Jeanette Beebe in 1977. The family was visiting Chincoteague on an RV trip and Jeanette was signing books for tourists. They had a hardcover copy of Misty at home but hadn't brought it so they bought this paperback for $1.95 downtown. Their mom decided it was worth buying a book for Jeanette to sign, but not without mentioning it a few times! Jeanette took a long time to sign this book and they were wondering what was going on, until they saw this great inscription she wrote.
As you can see Jeanette listed Misty and her 3 foals. And 4 of Stormy's 5 foals, the 5th was born in 1978. Two of Windy's foals and Breezy's daughter who was later named Beebe Breeze. Marguerite Henry would occasionally sign copies of Misty with a speech bubble about being the real Misty. Looks like Jeanette liked that and did it also. July 20, 1972 newspaper photo about Misty's 26th birthday. Reminding visitors to Pony Penning a week later to visit and wish her a happy birthday. It would be Misty's last birthday in her lifetime as she died a few months later on October 16th. But her birthday is still celebrated every year!
