1984 Chestnut Mare

Great Granddaughter of Misty

Sire: Cyclone

Dam: Misty II

Gentle Breeze's Pedigree

Gentle Breeze is the third known foal of Misty II, though there is some dispute on who her actual dam is. She is listed as being out of Beebe Breeze in the Pictorial Life Story of Misty, however, many people say that Beebe Breeze had a palomino colt named Thunder II that year. Misty II was listed as having a colt that year, but somehow things got mixed up. The Merritts had sent Gentle Breeze, Thunder II, and Rainy's Boy to another farm when they were weaned. When the the trio were brought back it was forgotten who went to which mare except for Rainy's Boy because his dam's new owner had pictures of him with Rainy. Thunder II shares looks and body type of Beebe Breeze. Gentle Breeze looks more like Misty II in body and shares the chestnut coloring. Gentle Breeze is listed on the family tree in The Pictorial Life Story of Misty.

Gentle Breeze was born and raised on the Chincoteague Pony Farm and lived there for the first four years of her life. In 1988 she and Cyclone were purchased by Mike Pryor and went to live on his farm in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania. Keli Ridenour, one of the girls who worked on the farm, became a special friend of Gentle Breeze and nicknamed her Breezer. In November of 1988 Gentle Breeze suffered an abscessed tooth which required surgery. She recovered completely but did not enjoy the medication she had to have afterwards. She even broke Mike Pryor's toe while he was trying to administer it to her. Gentle Breeze is pictured and mentioned in the book Windy of Chincoteague by Ron Keiper.

Gentle Breeze has been a broodmare for much of her life. She is the known dam of 2002 black pinto stallion Nightmist Legend sired by Nightmist, 2003 bay pinto stallion Pepsi sired by Nightmist, and her last foal was 2009 black pinto gelding Starry Night sired by her son Nightmist Legend.

Gentle Breeze died on May 9, 2016.
